Japanese Blossom Baby Shower Cake

I went to California last week to visit my family. My cousin Cherise is pregnant and had her baby shower this past Sunday. I wanted to do something special for her so I made her baby shower cake and some cupcakes to go with it. Her theme was Japanese blossoms and Pink!
The cake and cupcakes were Vanilla Cake with Double Berry Filling and Swiss Buttercream frosting. The top tier was almond flavored cake though.  I used fondant to make the twigs, leaves and flowers.  My Aunt Pam and Cousin Cherise helped me make the fondant accents. I used my Aunt Cyndi's tools and advice. It was a great weekend and lots of fun!

Cherise's friend Rachel did an amazing job decorating!

70th Birthday Cupcakes

I made cupcakes for a friend's mom's birthday this past weekend. She turned 70!  The family needed 60 cupcakes with a "Spring" theme.  So I made three different flavors: Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Buttercream, Lavender Butter Cake with Vanilla Bean Buttercream and Vanilla Butter Cake with Strawberry Buttercream. I then topped each one off with a cute fondant daisy.

My mother-in-law Cheryl, my sister-in-law Sarah, and of course Me!

Hummingbird Mother's Day Cake and Coconut Macaroons

Sunday was Mother's Day and I wanted to bake something really special for my Mother-in-Law.  I knew that she loves Coconut Macaroons, so I made those.

She also loves Pina Coladas, so I came upon a recipe for Hummingbird Cake.  It has bananas, pineapple, coconut and pecans....all of her favorites.  This cake was wonderful and is probably my favorite cake now!  I made pineapple flowers by drying them in the oven, and Cream Cheese Frosting.

Grasshopper Cupcakes

My Sister-in-Law turned 24 on Monday May 9, but we celebrated it the next day.  She really likes Grasshopper drinks and the color pink, so I came up with something close. The cake is a dark chocolate mint, the filling is melted Andes with buttercream, and the frosting is Mint Swiss Meringue.  The cupcakes were also JUMBO!

This weekend my husband and I were doing yardwork and he found this little guy!  It is a baby painted turtle, I think it is only a couple weeks old.  I was on the fence about keeping it until my husband named it!  Once he did it was set that he is now our pet.  His name is Donatello....yeah after the Ninja Turtles :). So now we have four pets....

Baby Duck Baby Shower Cake

I made my first baby shower cake tonight. I carved it All!  I know that Wilton has a Baby Duck cake pan, but then it wouldn't be as fulfilling in the end for me. The cake has 6 layers of vanilla cake and the frosting is a vanilla swiss buttercream.

Lavender for Spring

I went to World Market yesterday and found some lavender buds in the spice section. They made me think of spring and so I baked some lavender shortbread cookies and some lavender cupcakes with vanilla bean swiss buttercream.  I took them to Brandon's work and let them devour them!

Chocolate Birthday Cake

Today I made a chocolate birthday cake for a friend's wife.  I used Wiltons Heart-Fill Tasty cake pan. The cake is devils food and I filled the heart space with chocolate mousse and chocolate buttercream.  The outside frosting is chocolate buttercream.  Cindy LOVES Bracks Chocolate Stars, so I added some to the edges.  Hope she enjoys her surprise!

Basic idea of what it should look like on the inside.

Bella slept here the while I decorated. She loves the sun :)
